I was given the assignment to write a sonnet about something at NJIT (for my humanities class). I don't think this really counts as a sonnet.. because there was something about the number of syllables that we were allowed to ignore.. but whatever. I'd like to share it anyway because I never write poems, so this is rare.
Looking for happiness at NJIT People here and there trying to fit in Wandering to the frats looking for a party Searching for life, but all they find is sin.
Women exploiting their bodies only half dress. People using drugs and alcohol for a temporary high Having a "good" time thinking life is at its best Not realizing that this high only passes on by
Waking up again with a splitting headache I was just used why is there guilt in MY chest? How many times will I let my heart break? Hold on... is this it? Is this really happiness?
There's got to be more to life than what the world has to give. I want to find it—what I need to really live.
So I'm giving a
talk on Monday about the Dignity of Human Life with a focus on the
unborn child. This talk is going to be given to a summer camp filled
with kids from ages 5-14. I realized today that the talk is less than a
week away and I haven't written it yet. So, I decided to write it on
Xanga so that I have a little audience. Please comment. Maybe I need to
change some things..
Can anyone tell me who the author of life is? Who created
life? Who gave us life?
God.
He knows everything. He knows you. He knows you better than you know yourself.
He knows what you did yesterday. He knows what you're going to do tomorrow. He
knows where you're going to be 10 years from now. He knows all your sins and
all your secrets, but he still loves you.
Did you know, that before you were born, God was thinking about you?God says in the bible, "before I formed
you in the womb, I knew you" (Jeremaiah 1:5)
When an author writes a book. Before he even starts writing, he brainstorms. He thinks about everything he's going to put in the book and plans it out very carefully. God did the same thing when he created you. He carefully planned everything about you.
Did you know that before the world was created he knew that
Shakira would be attending summer camp?
God has a unique mission for your life that no one else can accomplish. Did you
know that?
So, let me ask you this. Does God ever make mistakes?
No. God never makes mistakes. I make mistakes. You make mistakes. But God? He
never makes mistakes.
So when God allows a woman to become pregnant, was that a mistake?
No.
What if the woman thinks she's not ready to be a mommy and God allows her to
become pregnant? Did God make a mistake there?
No. God knows her more than she knows herself and God would never give her more
than she can handle.
Now there are some people who think that becoming pregnant is a mistake and
they get angry at God or they try to get rid of the baby that's living inside
of its mother. They get rid of the baby by killing it. This is called an abortion.
This is a very sad thing. It's a very sad thing because when a
woman becomes pregnant, God wants that baby. God desires that baby. He adores that baby. Just like when your mommy was
pregnant with you, God was excited for you to come into the world. God is madly
in love with that baby, just like He is madly in love with you. God has an
amazing plan for that baby, just like he has an amazing plan for you. That baby
is alive, just like you are alive. No matter how small the baby inside her
mommy is, that baby is alive and God loves that baby.
Some people don't think that baby is alive, but the baby is indeed living.
I'm going to give you 4 facts of the baby inside its mothers' womb to prove
that the baby is alive. These facts all take place in the first trimester of
pregnancy. How long is a trimester? 3 months.
1. After a woman first becomes pregnant, can anyone guess how many days it
takes for the baby's heart to start beating? 22 days after a woman gets
pregnant the baby's heart starts beating.
A heartbeat is a sign of life. We see it on TV all the time on medical shows.
"Is he alive?! Do we have a heartbeat?!"
2. 6 weeks after a woman gets pregnant brain activity can be measured on an
EEG.
3. 8 weeks all of the baby's organs are in place and functioning. So that baby
has every single organ we have. It's got a heart, lungs, a stomach, everything.
4. 12 weeks the baby is the size of my thumb.

pop quiz! on the 4 facts.
Now there are some people who think that it's okay to stop the baby's life–to
kill the baby–before it is born if they don't want it. This is not okay. The
baby has no less value than you and I have. There are only 4 ways the baby
before its born is different from you and me.
Size – I am bigger than so-and-so. Does that make me better? Do I have the
right to kill so-and-so because I’m bigger than so-and-so? No! That would be a
crime! What about the unborn? Are we allowed to kill the unborn just because
we’re bigger than it? No! Therefore, size is not a justifiable reason for a
person to kill a baby in its mother’s womb.
Level of development – I’m older than all of you. I’m in college. I’m more
developed. Does that give me the right to kill any of you? No! What about an
unborn baby? Are we allowed to kill it because it isn’t as developed? No!
Therefore, level of development is not a justifiable reason to kill an unborn
baby.
Environment – You guys live in a city, the Bronx. I have a
friend that lives in the desert of New Mexico. People that live in the desert
are different from us, but does that give us the right to kill them? No. What
about the astronauts living in outer space? Are they less valuable because of
their environment? No. What about the baby living inside its mother’s womb? No.
Therefore, environment is not a justifiable reason to kill an unborn child.
Degree of dependency – Unborn children are dependent of
their mothers to survive. I’m still dependent on my parents to survive. Does
that give them the right to kill me? No! Diabetics are dependent on getting
their blood cleaned every week or so or else they will die. Does that give us
the right to kill them? No! So do we have the right to kill an unborn child
because it needs its mother to live? No! Therefore, degree of dependency is NOT
a justifiable reason to kill an unborn child.
Some people get abortions because they think they’re too
young to have a child and they get scared because they don’t know how to take
care of a baby. Or they think it’s shameful to have a child when you’re not married.
If this happens, we can always look to our Blessed Mother for help. She was
only a teenager when she became pregnant with Jesus. It was humiliating for her
because she was not married. Yet, our Blessed Mother did not have an abortion.
She said “yes” to God and because of her “yes” amazing things were able to
happen.
So if you know anybody who is pregnant. Tell them that God
is madly in love with their child. Tell them that this child has a unique
mission in life that only he or she can accomplish. And after she has the baby,
amazing things will happen to her, to her baby, and to everyone else because
she said “yes” to God.
Generally, on a day when a woman goes to get an abortion, she doesn't wake up in the morning thinking, "Gee, I want to exercise my freedom of choice today, let me get an abortion." She's usually thinking, "I have no choice, I MUST get an abortion. It's the only way." Is this freedom of choice?
Face it. Abortion is a money making industry. Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups will hide the alternatives to abortion. They hide the fact that there are potential parents on a 7 year waiting list waiting to adopt a child. They hide the fact that there are groups out there willing to give money, clothes, food, medical help, and homes to women who choose to have their babies and keep them. They hide the fact that abortion kills an innocent life. If they don't hide these things, less women would get abortions and therefore, they would make no money. Planned Parenthood hides truth to make money. I don't want to fund that.
Unless a women knows the TRUTH, she is not FREE TO CHOOSE. I support the freedom to choose.
